Cookshire-Eaton : Smart chips in compost bins

Eaton Corner resident Denis Boisvert learned at the regular council meeting March 2 that smart chips are already reading data in his roadside waste bins.

He said he keeps his compost at home and doesn’t want to be paying for a service on his tax bill that he doesn’t need. He also warned about smart chips being installed in municipal bins but was told by municipal staff that Cookshire-Eaton can already measure the number of lifts roadside collection makes for each bin.

Starting in 2027, bin owners will be charged according to the number of lifts, beyond an annual quota of 12, at the end of the year.
