Martinville resident Mary-Ellen Kirby returns as our region’s commissioner at the Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB), following school board elections held in the English-language system this fall. All candidates for the ETSB were acclaimed, meaning only one person was interested in running for each seat.
Community representation by election is a carefully guarded right that English-language school boards are managing to protect through major recent changes by the Quebec government. French-language schools, on the other hand, are now managed by “service centres” rather than publicly elected school boards.
